Goodbye Scout, Welcome Big Dummy

There comes a time in a man's life where he desires change. That time has come in the form of letting go of my beloved Scout. (My truck, not my dog). When I was young I swore I would keep this thing and hand it down to my kids.

It has taken me to many camping, wheeling, fishing trips in the past years. However, in light of the recent cost of gas and the addition of another family member, I do not see it likely that I will be spending the thousands of dollars to keep it up and the endless money that will be required to drive it anywhere, especially on a camping trip in the Sierra's.

Another factor is that with the current state of the earth with global warming, I cannot consciously drive the Scout and ignore the fact that I am destroying the earth for my kids...

So I am putting it up for sale. To be replaced by another utilitarian vehicle of sorts, a Surly Big Dummy longtail bike. This bike is purpose built to be used as transportation with the capability of carrying cargo. I will build this bike up and use it as much as possible to get me and my family around. Of course, the car will still be needed. But I am taking a vow to reduce it's usage as much as possible.

The bike will be the reincarnation of my truck the Scout. It will be the second coming of the Scout. Thus I will name the big, The Scout.

btw, if anyone wants to buy my truck, contact me.

More to come...
