Fiya in the avenues

Had a two alarm fire in the avenues early this morning. We were helping 51 with initial fire attack. We pulled up to heavy smoke showing from the fron tof the house...

We made our way around to the back C/D side of the building to find flames in the back of the garage and part of the living structure.

I pulled a second line off of 51 and advanced it to the rear of the building while 51 went in the front with their line. At the back we tried to force a door to the living quarters only to find it blocked from behind with unknown items that later turned out to be 20+ tires and various junk. I cut the door apart with an axe and my Captain began flowing water.

Meanwhile I breeched a window with the axe. I was caught off guard when I struck the window and it didn't break. It was saftey glass retrofitted over the existing window to block out airport noise. The glas wouldn't shatter. It had to be manually cut out with an axe. Then the inner window had to be shattered.

I took over the hoseline as my captain had to tend to other business. I flowed water throught the window and into the attic where there was heavy flames coming through a hole that was made by the interior crew. We flowed water for a good 20 minute before it was extinguished. Partially this was due to difficulty gaining access to the interior.

The fire was a 2 alarm fire. Responding units included San Bruno, South SF, Millbrae, Burlingame. After about 2 hours of overhaul, we cleared.

I managed to sustain a minor injury. After changing my SCBA bottle out to return to my assignment, I put the BA on and the regulator swung and nailed me in the face. A little cut and a bruise. Nothing to write home about.

BTW the photos are post fire, obviously.
